This course invites students to master advanced robotics concepts using SPIKE Prime kits, where they'll dive into mechanical and software engineering. Students will learn to build and program robots using block-based coding, gaining a comprehensive understanding of how various components synergize. As they tackle complex robotics challenges, they will sharpen their analytical thinking and enhance their problem-solving skills, iteratively refining their designs. Alongside these technological endeavors, students will also engage in various sports activities, developing physical coordination, fitness, and essential social skills like teamwork and communication. This balanced approach fosters creativity and innovation in robotics and supports physical education and social-emotional learning, creating a well-rounded experience that merges technology with physical and cooperative play.

Monday: Introduction to Robotics and Coding

Dive into the exciting world of robotics with an introduction to SPIKE Prime kits and LEGO robots. Students will learn about the realm of possibilities in robotics and start their journey with basic block-based coding.

Tuesday: Prototyping and Product Testing

Engage in hands-on building and testing with the creation of prototypes. Students will design a hopper race robot, followed by a challenge to create the perfect litter picker-upper, focusing on iterative design and product testing.

Wednesday: Teamwork and Collaborative Engineering

Discover the power of teamwork with a focus on building a robotic hand and brainstorming in groups. Students will learn about the dynamics of effective teamwork and begin a collaborative project to solve a problem using SPIKE Prime.

Thursday: Advanced Coding Techniques

Advance coding skills by exploring pseudocode, data types, and autonomous functions. Students will learn to code with more sophistication, preparing an autonomous robot for team-based challenges.

Friday: Competition and Reflection

Conclude the week with a robotics competition, applying the skills learned throughout the week. Students will set up challenges and compete with their robots in the final showcase.

Course Format

This course is part of a weeklong summer camp running Monday through Friday. Your child will learn in a small group setting on an inspiring university campus from an experienced instructor. An exciting daily schedule balances learning and exploration of this topic with a variety of outdoor and recreational activities within the larger camp setting. Lunch and aftercare options are available based on location.
