Tae Kwon Do for Children

HMD Academy’s Tae Kwon Do program is unique and is based on developing a child’s physical and mental readiness through his/her effort. Over time, this training method leads to the development of character—concepts such as grit, confidence, self-discipline and all of the other buzz words that every martial arts school purports to develop. We are unique because our curriculum is collaborative. These qualities cannot be developed in an environment of competitive training because the goal of competition is to win, regardless of the consequences to others or our own internal development.

Our training method allows the child to understand that their own effort is the only requirement for success, and that success is not limited to any one individual. Everyone can succeed regardless of the success of others. This is not to say that everyone will succeed; we do not reward students for simply attending the class or event. Failure is a necessary factor in learning. A good martial arts school understands this concept. A great martial arts school, like a great martial arts practitioner, understands timing. The timing of when it is important for the student to experience obstacles to their development and how overcoming them will lead to character traits that will last long after physical training has ended.

Our curriculum is designed to blend the dynamic structure of afterschool programs with the proven 5E instructional model—Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate.

Each phase is crafted to captivate and retain student interest, fostering a seamless and enriched learning experience.

- We start with the "Engage Phase" to spark curiosity with captivating visuals and prompts.

- In the "Explore Phase," students set out on their educational journey with clear objectives, supported by an environment that embraces learning from mistakes.

- The "Explain Phase" delivers foundational knowledge that is often cross-curricular in nature.

- The "Elaborate Phase" involves hands-on projects and activities, with bonus crafts and literacy integrations.

- The journey culminates in the "Evaluate Phase," where students reflect on their achievements and connect their learning to real-world applications.
